Ultrasound

Ultrasonography is a non-invasive imaging technique that allows internal body structures to be seen by recording echoes or reflections of ultrasonic waves. Narrow beams of high frequency sound waves are aimed at the areas of interest. These waves can be reflected, absorbed, or transmitted through which creates a picture for us to view. Ultrasound can be used for examination of abdominal structures, pregnancy diagnosis, and evaluate cardiac function.

Anesthesia and sedation are rarely used as the procedure is completely painless. In most cases, the fur will need to be shaved where the exam is being performed. It is important the probe makes close contact with the skin to provide a good image for interpretation.

We send all of our ultrasound images to a board certified radiologist for interpretation.
